Lupines, New Zealand 1990 |
| During my five-week photo assignment in New Zealand, I traveled the highways and byways of the lush, green country. Each year the mild spring and early summer of November bring these purple, yellow and magenta spires to rise up out of the thick green foliage blanketing the sides of nearly every road. The New Zealand climate and terrain are perfect for these fussy, short-lived plants as they are prolific along the busiest of thoroughfares. Unfortunately, these beautiful flowers are more finicky in North America and demand a great deal of pampering to flourish in even the greenest thumb's garden. |
