Bald Eagle, 1989

Because of the eagle's majestic appearance and power of flight, it has been called the "King of Birds." Since ancient times, it has been a symbol of strength and courage. The Sumerians chose the "spread eagle" as their emblem of power 5,000 years ago. So did Imperial Rome many centuries later. And in 1782, the American bald eagle was designated by Congress as the Great Seal of the United States.

Unfortunately, the American bald eagle is a threatened species as an exaggerated fear and strange curiosity of these magnificent birds has caused their needless killing. It is my idea to capture the essence of the bald eagle on film, rather than by killing.
