Kenner, a native of Memphis, began his interest in photography
in 1970 when he developed the idea of photographing the football team for
a Fancy Foot contest at his high school. He approached his uncle, a retired
photographer from New York, to borrow the cameras and equipment he needed
for the project. His uncle advised him that he would not loan the cameras,
but would sell them. That motivation and $30 profit started Kenner's career
as a professional photographer. Kenner makes his living today creating concepts
and implementing them through the camera lens for both commercial clients
and collectors of fine art photography.
Kenner earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in film
making from the University of Memphis in 1975, and graduated from the Brooks
Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California in 1980 with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in professional photography. After working for corporate
and advertising photographers in New York City, he returned to Memphis in
1985 where he has established a reputation as a successful commercial and
fine art photographer. His assignments have taken him to Africa, New Zealand,
Portugal, Thailand, Brazil, the Carribean and throughout North America and
Alaska. Kenner's award-winning work has been published in the New York
Times, Time, USA Today, American Photo and Disney
Adventure magazines, and has been exhibited at Nikon House in New York
City. He has also completed projects for corporations such as IBM, International
Paper, Promus and Land's End. Kenner has published a book of his work emphasizing
his special technique and signature style in photographing the animal kingdom.
He has also produced 60 posters, three calendars, and has exhibited several
shows featuring endangered species, "Trashed Treasures", flowers,
landscapes, cows and architecture.
Kenner's gallery, Jack Kenner Photographic Gallery, located
